Glowing Stoves specialise in fireplace renovations as well as stove installations. This fireplace project involved widening the opening and raising the height. We also cut and fit a 1200 x 900 slate hearth. All ready for the installation of a Mi-Fires Loughrigg wood burning stove.
The chimney breast is constructed of stone and brick. It has a small opening size. We raise the height to 1000mm and fit a new concrete lintel. After this, we remove the sides back to the original opening of 900mm. This is not only pleasing to the eye but also lets more heat into the room. The fireplace chamber is then rendered with sand and cement. However, we leave the rear in natural, original stone. I wish all fireplace renovations had rear walls like this one. We then cut and fit a 30mm thick Brazilian slate hearth. The hearth then receives a coat of slate oil.

Glowing Stoves are now ready for the wood stove installation. We use a flexible flue liner with a lifetime warranty. We don’t use cheap components. This is something that we will never compromise on. After making a new register plate in three sections we drop the new flue liner through the chimney stack. The Loughrigg 4.9KW log burner is just right for this space. We connect up and fire up the stove. There are no problems with commissioning the stove. Furthermore, t passes all tests and returns a flue draught reading of 18 Pascals.
