This log burner installation went well. However, the fireplace is bricked up so we can only guess what lies behind it. We open up the fireplace and find the chamber is too small. Because of this, we raise the height to 900mm and fit a lintel. We also widen it to give an 800mm width. This gives us plenty of space for the stove. Also, the stove looks great with space around it.

We finish the fireplace chamber with sand and cement render. The chimney breast we make good with a bonding coat and skim plaster.

However, because the fireplace has not been used for many years, it is full of bird nests. It takes time to clear this, as the chimney has not been used for 30 years!

We fit a 1200mm x 800mm slate hearth in one piece. This is bedded down and sealed.
